Generate MD5 and SHA Hashes
A hash function turns any text or file into a short fixed-length fingerprint: change one character and the hash changes completely. Type or paste text, or choose a file, and this tool shows its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes at the same time.
Use it to verify a download against the checksum on the publisher's website, to compare files, or to get hashes for development and testing. Text is hashed as UTF-8. Everything is calculated in your browser, so even large files stay on your device.
Why Use This Hash Generator?
- MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 at once
- Hash text as you type, or any file
- Lowercase or uppercase hex output
- Calculated in your browser — files are never uploaded
How to Generate a Hash
- Choose "Text" or "File"
- Type your text or select the file
- Copy the hash you need
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this hash generator free?
Yes, it is completely free and has no limits.
Which hash should I use?
SHA-256 is the usual choice today for checksums and integrity checks. SHA-512 is even longer, while MD5 and SHA-1 are still common for older checksums but are no longer considered secure.
Can I use MD5 or SHA for passwords?
No. Plain hashes are far too fast to protect passwords; use a dedicated password hashing algorithm such as Argon2, bcrypt or scrypt. MD5 and SHA are fine for checksums and identifying data.
Is my text or file uploaded?
No. Hashes are calculated entirely in your browser; your data never leaves your device.
